6 Days Until the College Music Journal Marathon 2012: Killer Mike
Submitted by on October 10, 2012 – 9:32 amNo Comment

Just the mere fact that Killer Mike is busy touring with legendary Wu-Tang rhymesmith GZA provides enough credibility to this Atlanta rapper’s verse slinging. And it does, but this guy’s been around the block for more than a minute. If you’re haunted by memories of OutKast, fear not, for Killer Mike got on the radar early after making appearances on 2000’s Stankonia ( “Snappin‘ and Trappin‘”) as well as “The Whole World” single. More than a decade deep—with several stunning mixtapes under his belt—his next evolution takes the form of R.A.P. Music, his latest album featuring appearances from T.I. and Bun B, an overarching concept of honoring “every music that’s been born on this continent from a group of people that were brought here in chains” and old-school beatmaking by indie genius El-P. Killer Mike calls his latest release a classic . . . and we can’t seem to argue.
